Ganda Mula status today in Varanasi
Varanasi · Kashi
Not active today
Today’s nakshatra (Ardra) is not one of the six root nakshatras — Ganda Mula does not apply.
What is Ganda Mula Nakshatra?
Ganda Mula — the “gaṇḍānta-mūla” nakshatras — are the six nakshatras at the rashi-junction seams of the zodiac: Ashwini (0), Ashlesha (8), Magha (9), Jyeshtha (17), Mula (18), and Revati (26). The Moon transits each for ≈24 hours, so Ganda Mula is in force for roughly four days a month.
Mula and Jyeshtha — the gaṇḍānta pair spanning the Vrischika/Dhanus boundary — are classed severe; the other four are mild. Smarta muhurta literature (Muhurta-chintamani, BPHS) counsels caution for births, journeys, weddings, and housewarmings during the active window. Continuing already-begun work and devotional practice are unaffected.
For births, classical remedies (mūla-śānti) are prescribed only when the child is born inside the active window — not when conception or unrelated family events occur during it.
