Divisional Charts

Divisional charts — vargas — subdivide each 30° rashi of the natal D1 chart into a finer grid and re-anchor every graha to a fresh divisional lagna. Classical Parashari practice reads each varga for a single theme: D2 Hora for accumulated wealth, D3 Drekkana for siblings and courage, D7 Saptamsa for children, D9 Navamsa for marriage and dharma, D10 Dasamsa for career, D12 Dwadasamsa for parents, and D30 Trimsamsa for misfortune.

Vargas are always whole-sign anchored — divisional charts in classical Vedic practice are sign-based, not cuspal. Once the divisional lagna is computed, every graha is placed in a whole-sign house from there. This is why a planet that is ill-placed in D1 can sit comfortably in its own sign in D9, and vice versa.

Reading the pair. A graha is judged by combining its D1 position with its position in the relevant varga. Classical practice says strong-in-D1 + strong-in-varga is the cleanest signal; strong-in-D1 + weak-in-varga is read as promise-without-ripening; weak-in-D1 + strong-in-varga is read as slow build, results coming later in life. Concordance between the two charts carries the heaviest weight — neither one is read in isolation.
