    Meaning

Om. The knower of Brahman attains the Supreme. On this it is said: 'Brahman is the Real (satya), Knowledge (jnana), the Infinite (ananta). He who knows It as set down in the cave (of the heart), in the highest heaven — he attains all desires together, with the all-knowing Brahman.' From this very Self sprang ether; from ether, air; from air, fire; from fire, water; from water, earth; from earth, herbs; from herbs, food; from food, man. This man, indeed, is made of the essence of food (annarasamaya). Of him this is the head, this the right side, this the left side, this the trunk (self), this the lower part, the foundation. On this too there is a verse.
