These are called the great samhitas. Now, with regard to the worlds: the earth is the prior form, the heaven the latter form, the ether their junction (sandhi).

The pupil is the latter form, knowledge their junction, instruction (pravacana) the connecting link. This is with regard to knowledge. Now with regard to progeny: the mother is the prior form, the father the latter form, the child their junction, procreation the connecting link. This is with regard to progeny.

  4. Verse 4

athādhyātmam | adharāhanuḥ pūrvarūpam | uttarāhanūttararūpam | vāksandhiḥ | jihvāsandhānam | ityadhyātmam | itīmāmahāsaṃhitāḥ | ya evametā mahāsaṃhitā vyākhyātā veda | sandhīyate prajayā paśubhiḥ | brahmavarcasenānnādyena suvargyeṇa lokena || 4||

Now with regard to the body: the lower jaw is the prior form, the upper jaw the latter form, speech their junction, the tongue the connecting link. This is with regard to the body. These are the great samhitas. He who meditates on these great samhitas thus expounded is united with progeny, cattle, the radiance of sacred knowledge, food, and the heavenly world.
