Verses

  1. Verse 1

annaṃ na nindyāt | tadvratam | prāṇo vā annam | śarīramannādam | prāṇe śarīraṃ pratiṣṭhitam | śarīre prāṇaḥ pratiṣṭhitaḥ | tadetadannamanne pratiṣṭhitam | sa ya etadannamanne pratiṣṭhitaṃ veda pratitiṣṭhati | annavānannādo bhavati | mahānbhavati prajayā paśubhirbrahmavarcasena | mahān kīrtyā || 1||

    Meaning

One should not despise food (anna); that is the vow. Breath, verily, is food; the body is the eater of food. The body is established in breath; breath is established in the body. Thus is this food established in food. He who knows this food established in food becomes established; he becomes a possessor and eater of food; he becomes great in offspring, cattle, and the radiance of sacred knowledge, and great in fame.
