About this scripture

About this scripture

The Sundarkand is the fifth book (kāṇḍa) of the Ramcharitmanas, the Awadhi retelling of the Rama story composed by the 16th-century poet-saint Tulsidas. It recounts Hanuman's leap across the ocean to Lanka, his search for and meeting with Sita, the burning of Lanka, and his return — and is the most widely recited portion of the work. The text runs in 60 doha-numbered segments built of chaupai couplets, dohas, sorathas, and chhands. The complete Devanagari (Awadhi) text is reproduced here from a public-domain source. A Roman transliteration is not included — IAST is a Sanskrit standard and is not well-defined for Awadhi (see SOURCES.md); a translation is not included either.
