About this scripture

The Bhagavad Geeta — "the Song of God" — is a Sanskrit scripture set as a dialogue between the prince Arjuna and Krishna, his charioteer, on the battlefield of Kurukshetra at the outset of the Mahabharata war. It forms part of the epic Mahabharata (within the Bhishma Parva) and is arranged in 18 chapters, each presented as a yoga. The complete Devanagari text is given here; the verse count follows the 701-verse recension (chapter 13 carrying 35 verses). The Devanagari is reproduced from a public-domain source, with IAST transliteration generated from it; a translation is not included.
